Pavel - Team lead, Altitude Control, Recovery

Pavel is a senior mechanical engineering student at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He has been fascinated by all things aerospace since a very young age. His passion lies with space exploration and robotics. Pavel has experience with mechanical design, additive manufacturing, milling, programming and robotics. In the brief periods of time between homework assignments Pavel enjoys playing soccer, riding his bike and tinkering with electronics.

Tom - Safety Officer, Atmospheric Measurement Payload

Tom is a senior Mechanical Engineer with a passion in combining mechanical, electrical and computer technology into mechatronic systems. He has experience with 3-D printing and programming along with quadcopter and remote controlled omni-directional car design. After the founding team's resounding success last year he is excited to help continue the program and develop it into a sustainable design challenge for current and future engineering students. In his limited free time away from Elab Tom enjoys rock climbing, playing soccer, and juggling.

Declan - Vehicle Design, Fairing and Payload Deployment, Recovery

Declan is a sophomore mechanical engineering student with a passion for space. He is looking forward to being a part of the team over the coming years, as well as designing, building, and launching as many rockets as possible. Outside of the classroom, Declan enjoys reading, soccer, and playing music.

Jared - Fairing and Payload Deployment, Web Presence

Jared is a junior mechanical engineering student with a passion for challenging engineering problems and creative solutions. He was drawn into the student launch team by the successes of the 2015 team. He is excited for the opportunity to apply his skills to the realm of aerospace, and to continue to propel the team in his senior year. When he isn’t thinking about how awesome the NASA student launch is going to be, Jared is moving around. Jared hikes, snowboards, plays soccer, runs, bikes, and swims to name a few activities!

Kaitlin - Atmosphere Measurement Payload, Propulsion

Kaitlin Perkins is a sophomore, studying mechanical engineering. Her interest in rocketry and space exploration first started with launching model rockets in the park with her father. For her high school senior project, Kaitlin shadowed the talented scientists and engineers of NASA’s SOFIA Program at Armstrong Flight Research Center, at Edward’s Air Force Base in California. In her free time, Kaitlin enjoys playing the drums, solving Rubik's cubes, and going to the beach.

Theo  - Vehicle Design

Theo is a junior mechanical engineer at UMass Amherst.  He always loves a good challenge.  One of his favorite past projects was designing a combined heat and power solar system that could be used at UMass.  In addition he has a Spanish minor to keep things interesting.  On the side, he is a competitive ballroom dancer and enjoys social dancing.  He loves to spend his summers as a counselor at summer camp.  He is a voracious reader, especially of fiction novels.

Yang - Vehicle Design, Simulation

Yang is an upcoming junior mechanical engineering at UMass Amherst. He likes theory and simulation based design. Yang has experience in ramjet engines, rovers, and has interest in rocketry. Yang likes to spend his free time watching stand up comedy, listening to 80s thrash metal, and smelling coolant from milling jobs.
